Team Phoenix Good Intention Convention & Student Genius Hour Reflections

All year students have engaged in a number of challenges during weekly Genius Hour time. From building with recycled materials to coding to planning a vacation on a budget, students have had different opportunities to try new things and be creative.

You may have heard that our final Genius Hour challenge to students was to do something to make the world better. Students came up with a variety of ways to accomplish this. One group asked students to write kind notes to their classmates which they then delivered anonymously. Other groups are raising money for various organizations: the John Graham Shelter and Homeward Bound, etc. We also have groups who are using their expertise to teach others about things like engines and circuits.

Everyone is invited to the culmination of this particular challenge and our first year of this Genius Hour experiment. We are ending this challenge with a Good Intention Convention where students will show off the work they did for this challenge and explain who and how they've helped the world. We would love you to come and see what they did. The Good Intention Convention will be held from 1:45-2:15 in the VUHS Library on Wednesday, June 8th. We hope to see many of you there!

Check out this short video to learn what the students and teachers think about Team Phoenix Genius Hour.
