On Friday April 15th, Stuart, from the Burlington Taiko Drummers, joined Team Phoenix and their musical mission. He was a dynamic and engaging presenter and workshop facilitator. He had a calm yet strong presence with the students, and they had an interesting time with him.
In addition to Taiko drumming, students engaged in a day of music immersion, and we culminated our day with a fantastic lip sync battle/talent show with the team. We had 7 groups get on stage to act out and lip sync to songs that ranged from Grease to Little Einstein to Justin Bieber. Interspersed throughout the lip sync performances, students also displayed their musical chops by playing their instruments and singing for us. We really have a talented (and brave!) group of students.
It was a wonderful way to spend the day after SBAC testing and the day before spring break. Check out the photos below to see some of the fun we had!
As we look to the end of the year, students on our team will be working on their final Genius Hour challenge, which, in simplest terms, asks them to create something to make the world better. We are hoping to have an expo of sorts during the last week of the year when students can display their projects. We'd love to have anyone available come to see what they create.
Thanks to the Commodore Parent Teacher Group for their generous donation to help support bringing Stuart and his Taiko drumming to VUHS.
